Blumen Spengler AG (Greifensee)

Our family business was founded in 1918 by Mrs. Schmidt and her daughter Elise Schmidt. They had moved from Höngg to Greifensee and started farming here. Here Elise Schmidt also met her husband Emil Spengler from Uster. Until 1948 the business was still a farm and they farmed the surrounding fields. They produced various vegetables and also cucumbers. At that time, cucumbers were still considered exotic, but they were among the first in Switzerland to grow cucumbers on a large scale. In 1949 the son of Emil and Elise Spengler, Kurt Spengler Senior, took over the business. In 1950 he built the first small greenhouses and from then on, the change from agriculture to horticulture began. In 1963, the first large greenhouses were built, two of which are still standing and still in use today. From then on, the company mainly produced flowers and plants. In 1966 the construction of the flower store took place, so that there was a suitable sales area for the producing flowers and plants. In 1992 the company was taken over by Kurt and Katahrina Spengler and they continued the family business. In 1997 they renovated the whole farm and expanded the flower store, and bought an additional 6000m2 of land. In 2013 the company was transformed into a joint stock company, for the purpose of a nursery business with flower store and also horticulture. 2019 entry into the company of Patrick Spengler and expansion of services with garden maintenance and horticulture.
